HEART STRINGS
As the name of this duo implies, Bruno van Hoek and Elly Beurskens play their music – straight, clean and simple – from the heart, using their voices and the stringed instruments that are so typical for old-time country and bluegrass: banjo, dobro, mandolin, and guitar. The focus is on the harmony vocals, their inventive approach to the stringed instruments and the variation in their choice of songs.
Bruno writes most of the duo’s instrumental tunes, combining the traditional bluegrass style with more modern influences and a fair amount of ‘wild ideas’. He is an experienced sound engineer and teaches bluegrass banjo, mandolin and guitar. Elly has been an accomplished singer/songwriter for many years, and her songs having been played and recorded by musicians such as Bram Taylor (UK) and Ilse de Lange (NL).
Apart from being ‘regulars’ on the Dutch folk-, country- and bluegrass scene, Heart Strings have appeared on stages in Europe and the USA. They are regular and well-loved guests in the British folk clubs and have joined forces with Bram Taylor on many occasions in the UK as well as in The Netherlands. They are looking forward to the opportunity of playing with Bram again for the benefit of the important fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
